Such a long week and it’s only Tuesday!
Argh! So I am full of stories today. I should have really typed them on the weekend or even yesterday but the weeks just seem to mesh into one lately. I wake up on Monday thinking its Friday. I try to sleep in on days that I need to be up. Call me crazy but the only way to break this madness is to get a job. It would add something new and maybe just maybe stop the days from meshing into one epic long stretch. All of this is besides the point.
The point!! I have used my kit twice since I last posted , which really isn’t that long ago. It came in very handy on Thursday. Apparently setting a personal best for getting ready(ten minutes boohhyeah!!) means that many things are forgotten and need to be done in the car. At 6pm Mum and Dad ask very nicely can I take my sister to soccer, at which point I am sitting in the lounge in what my sister calls “Bum Clothes”. Don’t worry she does mean the homeless man kinda bum not that I am showing my bum. Anyway I manage to get dressed grab my laptop and then go oo should probably ask what time we have to leave. 6pm!! Apparently they usually leave at 6pm!! So I throw on my face, barely and by 6.10 I’m in the car waiting for dad to move the ute for us. Perfume, lip gloss, tissues and bobby pins used. Back out the car. 6.15 on the way to soccer. Thanks to my kit and my new found speediness we managed to get to soccer on time. I never and I repeat never plan to get ready in ten minutes again though, its to much stress on my poor brain and well lets just say i wouldn’t want to meet the Queen looking like that.
My kit also came in handy on the weekend. We had my newest cousins christening on Sunday. With a car full of females (mum and us girls) the kit came in very handy on the way out. Though some how I did manage to forget my brush, which could have come in handy. I did however manage to have mints, lip gloss, tissues, bobby pins, panadol and my water bottle all when they were needed. It was a great day spent with family. I love my family, all of them even my crazy extended family. Well we are all crazy but they are amazing and I wouldn’t change them for the world. Some how though after family events I always come home tired, exhausted, dirty and feeling majorly full even if I haven’t eaten. Hence today being Tuesday by the time I got around to posting, it really took me that long to recover. Haha.
Well stay cool my amazing readers, which is pretty much impossible in this heat, and ALWAYS ALWAYS BE PREPARED!!
Remember me? It’s been a while…
Hello my lovelies!!
It has been such a long time since I last had any stories to tell you. I did try to blog a little while ago but it ended in a battle between the computer and my patience - the computer won!
So first I just want to tell you all something exciting, MyKit has grown. It now takes up half of my handbag. If you have seen my hand bag then you would know how impressive this is. I haven’t added that many items though, maybe it just seems bigger. I have added an umbrella and most importantly for all of you who suggested it - CHOCOLATE!! There are still more items I want to add so stay posted, it could be growing again soon.
I have a story for you :). For the first time ever yesterday I drove into and parked at uni. Yes I have driven into the city before and even for uni but I have NEVER parked at uni before. Its just never seemed worth it the being in the right lanes, taking the right turns and going into the city. Then there is also the fact that there aren’t many car parks, what if they are all full?? I normally just pay an extra $7 to park in the Convention Centre. To me $7 is little compared to keeping my sanity. Any way I digress. So i decided yesterday I could do this. I made sure I had money (notes) and plenty of time and went for it. Some of you may allready see the problem but I didn’t. Well not untill I was half way to the city. Uni parking meters don’t take notes!! I started freaking out. I had a whole $1.10 in coins in my purse. I hate shrapnel - but that’s another story. So I start digging through my cigarette/coin holder. Manage to find $2. All of this I am doing at trafic lights by the way. Finally I stop freaking for a second just switch off my brain (I learnt in Psych that if you stop freaking/ over thinking your more likely to get a clear thought - something to do with neurons - Ill explain another time). It came to me in my moment of clarity - MY KIT!! I had in my kit a grad total of $4 but with my all ready found change I was set. So my kit saved me again. Though any one looking as I drove into the car park would have seen the contents of my kit all over my front passenger seat which could have been interesting haha.
Well hope everyone is getting back into the swing of uni. Hopefully with uni will come more stories. So keep posted and most importantly ALWAYS BE PREPARED!!!
Old mother goose…
I have had a few reasons to use my kit over the last week or so, but have been both too busy and to lazy to post about it :). Therefore today’s post will be considered epic!
Last weekend my sister and I had to take my brother to soccer. Not just take him and drop him off but actually sit around and watch him play, not just one but TWO matches. If you actually bother to figure out how long we were there for it works out at about 5 hours. 5 hours of my life that I will never get back, 5 hours that were not exactly overly enjoyable but 5 hours that led to the use of my Emergency kit!! :)
During our time at soccer Steph and I managed to use:
- hair tie - silly girl left her hair down in this heat
- hairbrush - she s not as willing as me to look like a fool
- tissues - apparently the wind didn’t agree with her eyes or something
- detol - Maccas for tea, say no more
- sunscreen - after Sydney I was not getting burnt again
- and my notebook!
My kit did not only come in handy for objects but also provided entertainment and conversation. On the drive to soccer, all three of us had an in depth discussion about my kit and why I had it. My brother came up with some really cool ideas of things I needed to add to the kit or at least put in my car. According to Nat I need a torch, a collapsible bucket and a knife (safety style of course). All are great suggestions which I have taken on board and am in the process of getting :).
Yesterday my kit also came in very handy. I was over catching up with a friend who had to leave for work very soon. Heaven forbid his work pants had a hole in them. Being a male there was no chance in hell he would be mending them any time soon, so luckily I had my sewing kit and my amazing sewing abilities :). A good ten minutes, some thread, a needle and a safety pin later the pants were as good as new and were ready for work. My dear friend now owes me big time. When asked what he would do with out me he replied, that he would just be going to work with a big hole in his pants; Nothing quite like being appreciated!! hahah
Well thats my fun adventures for now :). Not long left of holidays, so soon my kit and I will be out and about every day, which means more oppurtunities to be creative and prepared and more stories. So till my next adventure stay safe and ALWAYS BE PREPARED!!
Dumb Dumb Dee Dumb
Yer so i did something dumb today. Silly me headed off to a training program today (to be part of orientation) with out even thinking of taking a book or pencil case or even simply a pen - Well at least that would have been the case if I hadn’t had my EMERGENCY KIT!!! I am so out of practise for this uni thing, having had way to long on holidays.
My preparation skills will come in handy in a few weeks time as I facilitate an orientation program for 10-30 uni newbies. Not only do we have to be prepared but they are planning to supply us with whiteboard markers, which if you know my kit you will know I already have!! I am predicting that my orientation experience will allow for the sue of my kit as well as testing my ability to be prepared so I plan to keep you all posted.
On a side note would just like to say that my thoughts go out to all the flood victims and currently to those who are sitting waiting to be hit by the cyclone. Not even my preparation skills could prepare for and prevent the damage that they experienced/ will experienced.
Stay safe every one and ALWAYS BE PREPARED!!!
Surviving Sydney

My kit and I took our most adventurous trip over the weekend to Sydney. For me it was quite exciting as I had not been on a plane in 12 years (yes people I was 8 last time). Being miss organised and prepared I googled what I can and can’t take on a plane. Unfortunately flight restrictions meant that various items out of my kit had to stay home. My kit now minus the sewing kit, nail clippers, cutlery and breath mints was dubbed the “mini” kit.
We survived the flight despite extreme nerves and butterflies and landed very excited in Sydney. During my time in away the following items came in very handy:
- hair ties - I had forgotten how hot it gets in summer (duh!!) due to all the rain we had been having in Brisbane recently
- Panadol - early rising, heat, days in the sun and living in close proximity meant headaches for me and my sisters
- lip gloss - a ferry ride from Sydney to Manly is exciting and very windy which leaves your lips extremely dry
- baby wipes - came in handy for everything from cleaning my dirty sweaty face at the end of the night to wiping spaghetti sauce off my very cute cousin
- and booby pins- state the obvious here but hair tickling the back of your sweaty neck is not cool!
My time away not only allowed me to use my kit but also lead to new additions to my kit. I would like to welcome the following items:
- sunscreen (yer I learnt the hard way)
- soap
- tissues
- moisturiser
- telfast tablets
- and a note book (got to keep track of these stories somehow)
We are now safely at home, despite flight delays, and are eagerly awaiting the next adventure. I would like to say a massive thank you to my aunt and uncle for letting us invade their house for 4 days and for being supporters of my emergency kit. Love you guys :). Once the sunburn is gone and I have had enough sleep I shall be out tackling the world eagerly finding ways to use my kit.
So stay posted and ALWAYS BE PREPARED. xo
All hot and blistered…
So I have my first story :). It’s nothing man vs wild worthy but I did promise you mundane with occasional flashes of entertaining. Today’s story is definetly column a.
Silly me went to my last shift at Kmart with her hair down and new shoes on. New shoes and running the stairs meant my poor little toes got all blistered. Emergency kit comes to the rescue with 1 x bandaid :).
My hair down was fine till I decided to reorganise the bulk bay. Think lifting microwaves and 10 person tents; you get a little sweaty! Sweaty then leads to clumpy hair and a wet and unatractive shirt. So Emergency Kit comes to the rescue again with 1 x hair tie :).
My Emergency Kit and I are off to Sydney next weekend so lets hope we have some grand adventures. Till then keep safe everyone and BE PREPARED!!
The Beginning …a very good place to start
So I have always had this little “essentials” kit I have carried with me. It contained all the important things like band aids, panadol, girly products and of course lip gloss. As a self proclaimed clutz these items got me through high school. Gradually I have added to my kit over the last few years, so that it until recently also included hair ties, fork and spoon, coinage and breath mints. It still didn’t seem enough, but I didn’t know what I was missing.
THEN (insert important sounding voice) I read the first novel of Jessica Rudd. Campaign Ruby follows Ruby on her adventures from England to Australia where she gets a job as an advisor to the opposition leader during an election. It’s a great book but the thing that stuck with me is what Ruby calls her Travelling Toolkit. By combinding many of the things on Ruby’s list with the contents of my kit and adding a few extras the Emergency Kit was born.
At current the emergency kit contains
- hair brush
- baby wipes
- sewing kit - including safety pins, thread, needles, pins, scissors and buttons
- breath mints
- shoe insoles
- dental floss
- bandaids
- panadol
- perfume
- hollywood double sided fashion tape
- nail file
- concealer
- hair ties
- anti-perspirant deodorant
- whiteboard marker
- bobby pins
- blue pen
- instant hand sanitiser
- fork
- spoon
- permanent marker
- nail clippers
- lip gloss
- stain remover
- spare underwear
- $3 in coin
- and feminine products
On the suggestion from a friend’s mum (thanks Mrs Lake) I have decided to write this blog to share with the world the adventures that me and these contents have. They may seem mundane items but with my friends and I, I expect them to come in handy in some pretty funny and entertaining circumstances. So every time I use the contents of my Emergency Kit I will let you all know; no matter how mundane or exciting the story may be.
So keep your eyes peeled for the next installment and always BE PREPARED!!!
